We all encounter conflict and confusion at times, but sometimes these feelings can become overwhelming and interfere with daily life. This is when psychotherapy may help. Psychotherapists are trained to listen in a way that enables you to find your own voice and change how you feel about yourself and the world around you.
Psychotherapy focuses on how you may be unconsciously re-enacting past experiences and feelings – and helps with understanding emotional difficulties in a fresh way. Thoughts, feelings, memories and dreams are explored in regular sessions within a safe, confidential therapeutic relationship.
Over time, the work enables you to find greater self-understanding, begin to live more fully in the present and face the future creatively.
‘There are things I’ve never been able to tell anyone, but you listen, you don’t tell me what to think’
I am a UKCP registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist offering both short and long term therapy to adults. Originally I trained as a doctor and have many years of experience of working as a GP. Through this I saw how much physical and mental suffering is related to underlying psychological and emotional problems and this led to my training as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the Guild of Psychotherapists. I have also worked in the NHS as a psychotherapist and psychosexual counsellor and have been in private psychotherapy practice since 2001.
There are many different approaches to psychotherapy. I work within the psychoanalytic tradition, which seeks to understand the unconscious origins of present difficulties.
I am a member of the Guild of Psychotherapists and of the CPJA college of UKCP, and am bound by their codes of conduct. I have trained with the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine, and I am a member of other organisations including BAPPS (British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision) and Psychotherapy Sussex.
I am also a qualified supervisor and offer psychoanalytic supervision to trainee and qualified therapists of all modalities.
